Andrew Cuomo Launches “Mask Up America” with Celebrity Endorsements

(FamilyRetirementClub.com)- Governor Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic politician responsible for sending thousands of COVID patients into nursing homes across New York state, has launched a new campaign to encourage Americans to wear masks. The New York governor launched the “Mask Up America” initiative on Thursday in collaboration with legendary actors Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman.

The new campaign was launched with eight videos, all available online, which were directed by Katheryn Bigelow. And that’s a big deal – she’s an Oscar-winning director, which means this campaign is supported quite substantially by celebrities. The videos are also packed full of big names, too, including Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Jamie Foxx, Jeffrey Wright, and many others.

And they’re all wearing a mask.

Now, many people won’t be offended by the move. Some will. The use of masks is controversial for a couple of reasons, one being that some people argue they aren’t effective enough to warrant wearing them, and others argue that mandatory mask rules are an infringement of rights. Perhaps the main scandal here is that Cuomo, who sent thousands of COVID patients into nursing homes with vulnerable old people, is now grandstanding as a moral authority on preventing the spread of this virus.

Morgan Freeman, whose voice is legendary when it comes to movie narratives, can be heard introducing the video.

“I may never have met you. We don’t go way back. Maybe we wouldn’t even be friends if we did. But when you wear a mask, you have my respect,” he said. “Because your mask doesn’t protect you, it protects me. And I wear my mask to protect you.”

In another video, Jeffrey Wright can be heard saying, “There’s a way to stop the spread of coronavirus. There’s a way to protect others. There’s a way to keep your family safe. New York figured it out.”

“The answer weighs less than one ounce. It’s not a heavy lift. Be New York tough.”

New York was one of the first places hit by the COVID-19 outbreak and while deaths are still going down, it’s still struggling pretty bad. More than 400,000 cases have been recorded there already, and cases keep increasing.

In his official announcement of the Mask Up America campaign, Cuomo referenced those struggles.

“New Yorkers suffered gravely when this pandemic hit our state and as we see other states battle the surge of COVID-19, we want to be sure all Americans know what we know here – that it is essential to wear a mask in order to protect one another,” he said.

As President Trump said…if wearing a mask makes you feel good, go for it.
